Want Power? Get Close!

We all want power. Whether you feel weak, tired, overwhelmed or just humanly flawed, we all need power. Power is the energy to do what we want or need to do. Power can be experienced as strength or as authority or both.

As I was talking to the Lord last night, He showed me something that is very relevant for many of us right now. I have been feeling for the last few months two things – a drawing away from the familiar roles I have played in the past, especially in terms of ministry and a drawing into the quiet place of rest with the Lord, the secret place of intimacy with Him.

I wasn’t sure what the next step was or why I felt I could no longer fill the old familiar roles I have filled in the past. They were good and helpful. But they were not for this season. Waiting and resting can be very challenging, especially when you want to DO stuff for His kingdom. And every day you see things that need His kingdom to come to set things right. It can be frustrating and confusing to simply sit and watch without the power to act.

So as I was pondering this, the Lord showed me something that I want to share with you. It is very simple, but with this insight came a strong sense of purpose.

Right now Jesus is calling many of us to draw closer to Him. To stop doing the things we normally do and just sit in His presence. To be quiet. To be less involved in external things and to focus instead on His presence within us and around us. It’s not about interceding for others more – we are simply being with Him, with no agenda.

He really wants this – to just be with us. I can feel His heart – He wants our full attention. With no agenda.

He showed me that as we do this, it develops in us a greater awareness of spiritual things. It sharpens our spiritual senses so that we can perceive the unseen realm with greater clarity. We recognize things we might have normally missed in our busy day-to-day lives. This inner quietness increases our ability to perceive the spiritual reality all around us.

With that perception, we can see clearly what needs to be done. It gives us information that most people around us don’t have. We can see spiritual attacks as they come, we can perceive the intentions of people around us and we can see what the Father wants to do in response to these things. We can walk like Jesus did (I John 2:6).

That clarity gives us confidence.

Confidence, clarity and closeness to Christ = Power to act.

For several years many of us have noticed that the veil between our natural realm and the spiritual realm is getting thinner. The light is getting brighter and it is revealing the darkness to be what it really is – deception. Darkness is losing power all over the world. More and more people are crying out for justice and peace. They are tired of oppression and no longer willing to put up with it.

That’s where we come in. When you are abiding closely with Christ, He can show you what is happening in the unseen realm around you and what He would like to do about it. This gives you authority to act on His behalf.

Imagine someone like Superman or Wonder Woman who can stop the bad guys and save the people who were in danger. Those movies inspire us for a reason – in Christ we can be that kind of superhero!

Wasn’t that how Jesus walked with His Father? The demoniac ran to Him and Jesus cast out the demons that were oppressing him. People were amazed at the transformation in the man as he sat at Jesus’ feet in his right mind (Luke 8:35).

When the people were hungry, He fed them supernaturally. When they were sick or in pain, He healed them.

Many of us have longed to see that kind of power demonstrated on an everyday basis. Not just at a special service or on an outreach, but every day, everywhere we go – can you imagine it?

I’ve seen demons cast out. I’ve seen people healed. But not consistently. And I’ve seen people struggle for years with the same issues or ailments, prayed for by many different people and nothing changes. You probably have to. You might even suffer with things yourself that you wish you could find freedom from.

We all groan in this mortal body longing for immortality. All creation groans for the sons and daughters of God to be revealed. (Romans 8:18-23)

What if that is what is going to happen next?

What if pulling away from your busy life to just sit in His presence was preparation to BE the superhero Jesus has designed you to be?

What if it’s not just fun or exciting but actually essential for this next season?

Imagine this:

You go to the grocery store. You are in tune with Jesus – your spiritual senses are aware as you put bananas in your grocery cart. You notice a man nearby. Your spirit alerts you that something is not right. You stop shopping and just watch, internally asking Jesus what to do.

The man looks up and makes eye contact with you. You see a demon looking at you through his eyes. Instead of freaking out, you look at him with determination and love. The demon sees the confidence in your eyes and backs down. The man turns and walks out of the store.

What just happened? Justice prevailed. The enemy was stopped from doing whatever he had been planning to do through that man. Maybe he had a gun and was going to shoot innocent bystanders. Maybe he was going to steal things or create havoc for the employees at the store.

Your presence and your awareness stopped him. If you were not intentionally staying in tune with Jesus, you may have missed it. If you were busy shopping or in a hurry, you wouldn’t have stopped to pay attention. You would have missed the moment.

The Lord is looking for people who will partner with Him in bringing the goodness of His kingdom through the veil into the natural realm we live in. This might look like powerful healing, signs and wonders. Or it might look like simply enforcing His justice wherever it is needed.

That would explain why it’s been so hard to draw close to the Lord. The enemy is throwing everything he has at us to keep us from doing this. Light reveals darkness and the more we shine, the more the darkness has to flee.

The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy (Romans 14:17). The word for righteousness in that verse means justice, equity, fairness. It means doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons. Can you imagine true justice being delivered in every situation you encounter? Wow, I would LOVE to live in a world like that.

Would you like to be part of God’s Justice League? I would!

So do the hard part right now – sit quietly in the presence of Jesus with no agenda. I know it’s not easy – your mind wanders, your body feels restless, you want to DO things that have tangible results that your eyes can see. Be patient. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the grace to be still and know that He is God. Teach yourself to be present to His presence throughout your day. Schedule an alarm to remind you to check in with Him from time to time.

Are you feeling the Lord calling you to the secret place with Him in this season? What is He showing you – please share! That’s how we all learn from each other.

P.S. Here are a few practical examples of how I am experiencing this increased awareness of the unseen realm and how I have been able to act to change things.

A. Last night after I was done reading, I was getting ready for bed. I suddenly felt this heaviness come over me. I stopped. I tuned into the Holy Spirit inside of me and asked, What is this? I thought of what I had been reading – there was nothing heavy in it. As I waited for a few seconds, Holy Spirit showed me that it was a spiritual attack to cause me to feel heavy, sad, etc. – for no reason! That made me mad so I commanded it to leave. If I had not stopped and paid attention enough to ask, I probably would have felt sad, heavy and miserable as I was trying to go to sleep. (I had felt that way a few days before & did not notice that it was an attack.)

B. Yesterday I was shopping in a department store. I walked over to the women’s clearance section to see if there was anything interesting there. An older man was looking through the clothes. I thought that was a little odd. There was no one else around. He walked away as I approached. As I walked into the space where he had been standing, I suddenly felt terrible. Like the air was contaminated. It was awful. I continued to feel this dirty cloud as I walked down the same path he had walked. So I asked the Lord to clear the contamination and I felt it dissipate around me.

C. About a week ago my mother was complaining of stomach pains. Each day for 4 days she mentioned this and I suggested different things she could try. We couldn’t figure out what was causing her discomfort and it seemed to be getting worse. She couldn’t sleep at night because it kept waking her up. Finally, it seemed to me that we needed to see her doctor or take her to urgent care to address this. That night I asked the Lord what was going on. What occurred to me was that this was not the Lord’s goodness – that this was annoying! It was not acting like normal physical symptoms that could be resolved easily. So I focused on God’s goodness to me and to her and asked for that goodness to manifest. The next day she said she slept well and the stomach pain has not returned! Thank you, Lord!

These are simple examples – I believe these kinds of experiences train us for more serious situations that may occur in the future. We are training our senses by using them in daily life (Hebrews 5:14).

Power Over Chaos: The Enemy’s Worst Nightmare

I had a really intense dream this week that gave me some wonderful deep revelation. Here it is:

I’m alone outside. I observe that the wind is starting to blow. I see all this trash on the ground. It was empty plastic bags – some clear, some white and some light blue. The kind of bags you get at grocery and retail stores.

plastic bags

I was in a semi wooded area and it was kind of ugly. The ground was white dirt. The trees had no leaves, like the way it looks in winter.  When the wind started to blow, I noticed that all the plastic bags were being picked up by the wind – it was cleaning the ground.

I was happy about this – I was delighted to watch all the plastic bags being picked up and taken away or maybe just gathered in piles so they could be thrown away.

By watching the bags, I noticed that the wind was blowing in a swirling circular pattern. In front of me was a small lake. I saw that the swirling was centered in the lake and it was getting stronger and stronger. I could hear a voice warning me, Don’t go near the swirling! (As though this was very dangerous and the voice was trying to protect me.)

But it was inevitable for me to be swallowed up by the swirling. There was no way to escape it. It got more and more violent until I was in the center of it in the lake.

There was nothing but chaos surrounding me. It was like standing in the middle of a tornado. I couldn’t see anything – just the sense of being in the middle of this powerful swirling wind.

But instead of freaking out, I started calming down inside by humming two tones over and over. And I knew that as I calmed down on the inside, it would calm the chaos around me. Then I woke up – my husband thought I was having a nightmare and he woke me up (he said I was making noise).

Here are some Insights I received from this dream:

I have been warned to stay away from the chaos. But when chaos surrounds me, I have power over it!

You can stop the chaos without, by bringing peace to the chaos within.

I do NOT need to fear the chaos because greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world (I John 4:4). I bet that terrifies the devil! Maybe I was having his nightmare! LOL 😂

I think the voice that was trying to protect me is either my ego or maybe religion. What sounds like wisdom, but it’s really based on fear. The voice was well-meaning and trying to protect me. It thought that the chaos would harm me. But when I was in the middle of the chaos, I found out that I actually was more powerful than it.

The enemy tries to intimidate us with chaos – he says, “Look at all this craziness you can’t control!! Be afraid, be very afraid!” (If you watch the news or read the headlines – it’s there every day.)

Yet the Chaos is the very thing that reminds me to tap into the Peace within me, which is more powerful than the chaos outside of me. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I am powerful in Him. It’s time to stop listening to the voice of fear that is trying to protect us. Because in reality we already have all that we need. Nothing can truly harm us. We are safe in the most wonderful way.

I feel such joy! The more I embrace that things around me are out of my control, the more true lasting power I realize I have because I am the one that brings calm to the storm. I don’t have peace by controlling things around me to keep things from getting “out of control”. I have peace because none of it is under my control. I don’t have to control it! I don’t have to manage it in order to have peace and power. Peace and power are already mine – it resides in me as I abide in Christ.

The devil is terrified that we will discover this secret and take away his power by bringing peace on earth.

We are the enemy’s worst nightmare. Not the other way around. I LOVE that!! 😁😍🤣

Wow. Thank you, Lord!! Your kingdom rules over all and we are your ambassadors. We bring Your kingdom wherever we go! ❤️

So what do you think? Does this speak to you the way it did to me? What is the Lord highlighting to you about this dream that you could apply to your life today? Please comment – I love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you for being part of this journey – bringing Peace on Earth. Go be dangerous to the devil! 😎

Attracting the Holy Spirit

Rating: Inspirational, pleasant

Humility attracts the Holy Spirit. – Mickey Robinson

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. – Solomon, James & Peter (Prov 3:34, James 4:6, I Peter 5:5)

What is grace? One definition I like is “God’s enabling power”. So how does this power come to us? By the Holy Spirit. “…you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you …” (Acts 1:8)

Recognizing your dependence upon God and your need of Him makes you humble. That draws the Holy Spirit TO YOU.

When you feel confident you can “handle” life on your own, God will resist you. His Spirit won’t help you because you don’t seem to need Him.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt 19:14) Little children are humble and dependent. They know they need help – tying their shoes, getting a drink, feeding themselves, getting dressed, etc. So they ask, every time they need something. Admitting their weakness allows someone with strength to help them.

Most of us, as adults, want to show we are strong, that we can “handle” whatever life throws at us. But the opposite attitude is needed if we wish to receive God’s enabling power by His Holy Spirit. We must humble ourselves every day, saying, like Moses did, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15)

Admitting that we don’t “have it all together” is a vulnerable place for us. We’ve been told to “grow up” and be responsible for our lives. Yet, it seems to me that the complexities of life are meant to drive us to this place of vulnerability and trust in His grace.

So, here’s some questions to ponder :
How much do you want to do on your own?
and
How desperate are you for His help?

The choice is yours.

I’d rather choose vulnerability, grace and humility daily. I don’t want to do this on my own. I want more of the Holy Spirit’s help and enabling power. The world is too big and scary – just look at the news each day. We need help. Our planet desperately needs His grace.

Make us humble, Lord, that we might receive Your enabling power by Your Spirit. Without it, we’re lost. ♥
