Introduction

Introduction – this is where to start if you’ve just discovered this blog
To answer the questions: Who are you and why are you writing this blog?

Do you believe in an unseen realm? I certainly do – it’s been invading my conscious awareness of life from the time I was little. I distinctly remember being able to “feel” or sense things that were unseen to my natural eyes. It was very unsettling for many years. After I became a Christian, I started learning terms to help me understand this realm. Words like angels, demons, Holy Spirit, God’s kingdom, etc. were given to help me put words on the things I could feel.

That helped a little bit, but still – I didn’t know anyone else who had these impressions. Was I crazy? Were these things real? If so, WHAT were they and why did I know things that others didn’t seem to notice?

While in Bible College, my perception seemed to increase. Now, it was really starting to trouble me. I told a friend about it. I had never really talked about it before – it sounded too weird. This friend encouraged me to speak to a professor and ask their advice. I spoke to one and she said, “I don’t know much about that stuff.” My friend and I went to another professor and he said, “I’ve never experienced that, but my wife has mentioned it. She says she asks God what the information is for.” So asking my teachers in Bible College did not give me the help I was looking for. I decided it was better to not talk about it – no one understood. There was no one I could talk to that also had these weird experiences – that’s what I was hoping for, I think. I wanted some direction as to what to do with the information I received. Looking back, that second teacher gave me good advice, I just didn’t know how to apply it.

Finally, in 1994 I met a new friend who could “see” what I could only “feel”. She also had become very cautious about talking to anyone about the things that she saw. She mentioned something one night when we were at her house. I immediately started quizzing her on what she could see. It surprised her & she wasn’t sure she wanted to talk about it. She had been through similar experiences as I had and had learned not to talk about it or you get strange looks. In time, she became more comfortable with the idea. I discovered that although she could see, she could not feel. This limited her ability to identify what she saw.

Together we started asking God for understanding. Just like the body of Christ is made up of many members, our “gifts” needed to work together to be useful. We started to practice using our gifts – this was new for us. It happened kind of accidentally and we realized we might be able to help each other. One day we were stopping to use a pay phone outside a grocery store (tells you how long ago this was, right? When was the last time you saw a pay phone?). As we stood there, she said, “Eww!” and looked away. I looked where she had been focused and saw nothing but a pile of scattered papers where the wind had blown stuff from the parking lot into a corner. I asked, “What did you see?” I was already feeling things in the air, but couldn’t identify them. She described what she saw as a big, ugly blob looking creature, really messy and gross. Immediately, I got the impression it was a visual representation of an Unclean Spirit. The corner where it was sitting was definitely an appropriate spot – an unclean corner. I had felt an oppressive feeling that made me feel unsafe, like I wanted to leave immediately. It was the same feeling I got in poor neighborhoods at night – that feeling that makes you lock your doors as you drive through.

Working together, we started putting together the pieces – learning how to use our gifts as a team to understand what we were experiencing. Later that year we made some other new friends that also had a measure of what we now referred to as “discernment”. We became more comfortable talking about all these “weird” things we could feel, see, experience, etc. Then God started teaching all of us how to work together to help each other. We would pray for each other and in an atmosphere of faith, God would release words of knowledge or words of wisdom to guide us how to use this information to bring healing or freedom from oppression. It was powerful. It was amazing! People’s lives were changing. I was hooked.

Since that time, I have grown a lot in understanding how to stay in tune with the Holy Spirit to understand, recognize and respond to what He is showing me. Henry Blackaby, author of Experiencing God, helped me by teaching that “if God shows you something, that is His invitation for you to join Him”. That was encouraging. I knew this gift was not “my crazy idea”, it was His gift in me to help people.

I have given my life to learning how to help people with this gift – both in praying for inner healing/freedom and through strategic intercession. I have often wondered why He would teach me so much about this unseen realm when there were so few who were interested in talking about it. In many Christian circles, I would still be considered “strange” if I talked about the things I perceive.

Recently, I felt impressed that it was time to “unleash it”. To release what I’ve learned in hopes that there are people who are ready and eager to learn more. I recently met a new friend who said, “I am just now learning about spiritual warfare. I had a strange experience the other night while praying on the phone with a friend and I need to learn more.” For people like her, I have taken on this project of writing my experiences in the hopes that someone may be helped and encouraged by them.

Be warned: This is not for the faint at heart. Many people do not believe in the unseen realm. We’re too “scientific” as a culture in the Western world to accept these ideas of angels, demons, spirits, an unseen kingdom in battle, etc.

I promise not to get too weird. Well, what I mean is, I’m not going to start drawing conclusions between the unseen realm and alien abductions or anything. And I’m not into quantum science either.

So I hope this gives you a little background – where I’m coming from and why. If you need a Biblical basis for the unseen realm, there are many books out there that have already done a very good job at discussing this topic. I don’t feel the need to write another dissertation when it’s already been done. Some place a lot of importance on finding every single thing in the Bible – please feel free to do this, if that’s on your heart. I’ve been there, done that and now I just live simply. I listen to Him, I respond to what He shows me and I love the people around me.

  1. Wow…I want to learn more. I just went through a year of trials and oppression. I have found a few people “like” me. They have “gifts” and desire more of God. We live Him and want to walk in His ways. We need to learn and put things together so we can be His servants. We just want to know where…what to do with these gifts.

    • Terri, thank you for your comment. I am so glad to hear that you want to learn more. I hope this blog is helpful to you – it might answer some questions. I am also so happy for you that you have found a few people who are like you! That is incredibly priceless! As you seek Him, God will teach you everything you need to know. He will show you what to do with the gifts He has given you. Trust Him – He’s the teacher. 🙂

  2. Rebecca Brewer

Well I am happy to get this information. Yes I too have been told it is demonic. It is not God. So much said to me. It’s that they just do not know. I thank you for your information here – it truly helped me. I am ordering the first book tonight. I;m just happy to know that more are around and I am not alone. Again thank you.

    • Rebecca, thank you so much for your comment! I am so glad this blog helped you. Yes, you are NOT alone. There are many like us but most of us are afraid to say anything because of the fear of being rejected or labeled “strange”. I am glad this post encouraged you. The book will help. I am also working on developing a course to help people like us develop our gifts so we can be a blessing to others. 🙂 God bless you and thank you for writing!

  3. I relate to this blog. Ever since I was small I felt different and I saw things differently, I’ve touched into spiritual realms as a child without even knowing it, I’ve encountered demons and befriended them but I found Christ, and ever since I started reading God’s word, the more I encounter answers for what I’ve been experiencing. I’ve also always felt strange trying to describe my encounters to everyone, so I write. I write journals and I’ve been writing ever since i could remember. I always ask God and question why am I writing and I realizing that I’m writing so that someday, whoever had my journals they can learn from my experiences. I cant carry on a normal life because that means ignoring this side of me, what should I do? What should I do with my journals? I’m an artist and in thinking of making a comic, and I also like writing so should I create a blog as well?

    • Aurie, thank you for your comments. I’m glad you can relate to this blog. It really helps to write out your experiences because it helps you put them in words and it might give you some understanding about them. You could create a blog to share your journals with the world – kind of like I’m doing here. You could even create comics about your experiences – that would be cool way to help people “see” what you see. It might help people be more open to learning about this unseen realm if they read about it in a comic and you could explain to them the difference Christ makes in your life. If you decide to do either the comic or the blog, please let me know. I’d like to read it! 🙂

  4. Glad to be here because, ME TOO!!!! I’ve learned these past few years to fully embrace it and to blazes with the ones who look at me funny!!! This evening, I just typed in ‘Holy Spirit of Jesus and God, please help me’. They’re really good humoured and great fun to have with us! Great read also, God Bless xx

    • Thank you, Niamh, for your encouragement – glad you’ve joined the club! Thanks for validating that I’m not crazy and I’m not alone. If you’d like to share any of your experiences or insights about this realm, please feel free to let me know. You can post them as a comment or write a guest post, if you’d like. 🙂 God bless you!

      • I think if other people only knew, that everything, simply everything we do, think, feel, experience, etc. is ALL only possible because of The Breath of Life, the Holy Spirit of our Creator in Heaven. Everything’s been re-labelled, i.e. ‘gut feeling’, ‘brain’, ‘third eye’, ‘imagination’, and so on. It’s all yours as an individual! Unique, just like everyone else!!! When you think or meditate on something, you’re really thinking with God’s breath! I find that absolutely amazing!!!! Invite Him in! Just make ourselves worthy to house God! Nothing came into being that wasn’t designed by Him. He and all He’s put in place for us, will lead and protect, we’ve just gotta ask and They’re always listening! The ‘other side’ cannot create, but is a master manipulator. We live in a world of fear, chaos and lies ONLY because people have bought into the distractions, as has always been the nefarious intention of the evil one. Every thought and word matter. I’d advise all to keep ’em as positive as you can. What we put out, we get in return! Thanks for your reply and acceptance xx Dia libh go léir
