1. Why am I harrassed at night by unseen foes – even after I have prayed to cleanse the house of any unwanted spirits, closed any open doors and asked for God’s covering and protection? It feels peaceful and safe when I go to sleep, but then invariably I will awaken to something or someone in my room. The air feels tainted. Sometimes it will give me nightmares.
a. Why is this possible?
b. What other steps do I need to take to prevent access to my home when I’m asleep?
c. Or is this just part of being at war (the enemy can sneak in and take advantage of you at will – just like in natural war)?
2. What are the “rules” of the unseen realm?
a. Do beings in that realm have to get permission (from whom?) to show themselves in the visible realm?
b. Are there consequences if they don’t follow the rules?
Discernment of the Supernatural Realm 
There definitely are rules to the unseen realm that we don’t completely understand. I actually came to Christ due to my involvement in the occult. I sifted in some of the more real aspects of black magic (Not completely realizing what I was doing at that moment in time) and actually had an evil spirit reveal itself to me and attempt to possess me, it was utterly convinced it had me. I have no doubt that the type of things I was messing with (I’d rather not say because the information is dangerous) granted the entity some level of “permission” to attack me even though I certainly didn’t extend an invitation. Needless to say my doubts about religion disappeared and I accepted Christ right there. 3 days of hard prayer and fasting, inability to sleep because of a relentless assault……it finally ended, Christ won that battle for me.
I’m convinced that there is some type of spiritual and/or emotional vibrational aspect to it (Allowing yourself to be dragged into negative states of consciousness will obviously make you more vulnerable the more negative it is). As you said elsewhere on your blog, I get a vague intuitive sense of what some of these general rules are although I can’t put my finger on why I’ve came to all those conclusions. Thanks :). Not much else I can share that you or others probably don’t already know. The only thing I think that’s worth emphasizing is that we really have to watch ourselves when it comes to sin. The evil part of the unseen realm is always looking for ways to keep is in as low of a state of consciousness as possible. A little fit of road rage, sexual lust, worrying about paying the bills, anxiety about this or that…….anything that keeps our minds off of God and keeps us feeling negative. We’re much more likely to sin in a negative state of mind and it becomes a cycle of behavior that’s hard to break and keeps us distracted from what’s really important and effectively disables us spiritually. Prayer, repentance and discipline are so important.
These are things we already know but don’t guard enough against as Christians. Look how negative so many Churches are these days. Stuck in negative states of mind, repeating the same routine over and over, pointing the finger at each other, judging each other, and completely oblivious to the unseen world that’s all around us……even though it’s existence is a core fact of the faith.
I like this line, “anything that keeps our minds off of God and keeps us feeling negative” – well said. Distraction seems to be one of the primary assignments, at least in our modern culture. Thank you for sharing that insight.
Yes, so many churches are negative – it makes me sick. How is this a demonstration of the LOVE of God? I thought that was the main message of Jesus, “For God so loved the world…” yet I have rarely seen that demonstrated by people who call themselves followers of Christ. It is very, very sad. I just read Rob Bell’s new book, What We Talk About When We Talk About God. He explains that it is easier to point fingers at others than to deal with our own “shadows” within. He especially pinpoints pastors and political leaders for helping to “stir the pot” to get groups of people focused on an external “enemy” so that they don’t have to notice how bad things are for themselves.

Hello I have a question. I dated a guy in the past who had a santeria bracelet that broke when he met me. He said he spoke to his brujos about it and they said that would mean we are always connected and it freaked me out. I am Christian now, but that thought still scares me. What are your thoughts? Thanks.
Alellis09, thanks for your question. That seems odd: his bracelet broke = we will always be connected. That doesn’t make sense unless that bracelet was some kind of prayer to find a mate. However, you speak of him as being in your past so obviously whatever spell was there was broken. If you want to make sure you break any “unseen” connection between you and this man, you can break soul ties with him. First, ask God to show you if there’s anything you need to forgive him for. Then say out loud, ““I forgive __(name)___. I release him from the harm he caused me. I let it go.” Completely forgive from your heart – don’t just say the words.
Then say this out loud to break any soul tie you might have with him.
“I break any unhealthy soul tie between me and __(name)___. I send back any part of his soul that I have kept and I take back to myself any part of me that he kept. God, please wash me of this connection and restore my connection with You in this area of my soul.”

Yesterday I was severely slimed – I guess- a woman came up to my table & I became very dizzy. This is the work of “The King of Terror” or death. I know this already – I know how to remove dizziness – but there must be more – having, somehow, to do with deliverance for the carrier.
Chris, thanks for your comment about “sliming”. That’s a great reference to the Ghostbusters movie – and it certainly feels like that when it happens to you. LOL 🙂
You said, “there must be more” and I agree. It has been my experience that the more healing I receive internally, the less this “sliming” affects me. In fact, sometimes I am not affected at all and that is a WONDERFUL feeling. I’m glad you know how to remove the effects of being slimed. Thanks for stopping by!
You need someone with both greater knowledge, & more importantly, greater authority, to clean you house. You can also break a valid seal by letting things into your home – demonic things, witchcraft things. You may also need to anoint every opening – doors, windows, drains, vents, etc., in your home. I have also “walked” around the perimeter of the property to seal it – including igniting a ring of fire around the perimeter (yes, a little exotic).

I read your post about discerning spirits. Long story short, it took several years but I know without a doubt I do have this.
About six years ago (before I realized the extent of things) I had begun seeing a young man. What drew me to him was peculiar to say the least. I thought it was strange how well we clicked and how it almost seemed as if we could read each other’s minds. I also noticed at that time that whenever I interacted with him, even thought about him at times, I would experience this sensation in my chest. I liken it to fire, but it’s not painful, more on the pleasurable side but not necessarily 100% pleasurable either.
6 years go by after we lost touch completely and long story short but through a friend he reached out to me. When we got back in touch we basically talked nonstop for three days, the forth day we ended up talking on the phone for 8 hours! And again through out this time I experience this sensation in my chest again. I know it is supernatural. Would you have any idea what this may be? I pray you may be able to give me insight. Laura, thank you for sharing your story and posting your question. This “fiery” feeling in your chest is telling you this person is a powerful influence in your life. Kind of like an intense empathic response – your soul recognizes their soul passionately (not necessarily romantically, though it can be confused for that). You really connect and you connect deeply. This connection can be life changing. You probably have a LOT in common and are on the same “wavelength” – you are also both very spiritual. This can be wonderful!! To finally find someone who “gets” you and seems to like who you really are. However this kind of connection also comes with a warning label (which most of us ignore) – it is easy to become so enmeshed that the relationship becomes codependent and really unhealthy after awhile. You become so connected that you fear making changes because you don’t want to upset the equilibrium and “happiness” of the relationship. It’s so much fun at first that it’s really easy to ignore the warning signs until it’s too late. Some people refer to this phenomenon as “twin flame” – this person may feel like the other half of you. But in reality, they are not. You each have your own identity and purpose – and maybe together you can do great things (if nothing else, it makes you feel wonderful to be in their presence and connected to them). I would encourage you to talk to Jesus about this person – ask Him what He thinks. Ask God to guide your relationship and keep it focused on Him. If this person starts showing narcissistic tendencies, you may become a victim of their self-obsession. At first, they are super obsessed with you (i.e. 8 hour phone conversations) but given enough time, they will move on to the next shiny, exciting thing and that will hurt deeply. So be sure to keep your identity intact – in other words, remember who you are without them. If things start to feel uncomfortable, you may want to read my post on soul ties. Based on the Word, it seems everything, if it had to have permission, it would come from God alone as satan cannot create anything or have any power that God doesn’t allow. I don’t think seeing them is a last ditch effort by the evil being, because it usually terrifies most people as opposed to make them feel more courage against it. Fear is probably one reason a lot of demons were and are worshiped.
Based on my personal experiences, I’d say they are not as hidden as we believe. I used to see them all the time as clear as day, just like any other physical object in this world. I mostly saw evil beings because I did not live in a good place or area, but I did see angelic beings as well. I still see them out of the corner of my eye or a picture in my mind but mostly I feel their presence and intentions, good or ill.
b. Are there consequences if they don’t follow the rules?
In my personal opinion, I don’t believe they are following a “they can’t see me rule” as many people can and do see them very easily. Maybe it is a particular gift of discernment to seem them clearly, but I don’t believe there is a rule they can’t be seen unless it’s literally the ones trying to trick you by not being seen. Does that make sense? Some it doesn’t matter and others, secrecy is key to deceive. In which case, maybe it’s a demon/evil being rule to not be seen in certain cases to cause mayhem and deception but not God’s rule.

Hi there! My name is Cori Hughes, I am 32. I was brought up in Baptist churches and schools, I accepted Jesus in my heart when I was 12 years old. I didn’t really know the Lords presence or really know the Lord until the last 3 years, I am still new to my walk but I have always been able to sense the spiritual world. I am reaching out because I have been doing my due diligence of self deliverance and getting delivered by deliverance ministers. I have very much needed a new mattress and my co worker had mentioned that his neighbor had a new mattress they could give me. I never thought of the spiritual aspects of this idea, anyways… I took this mattress and got rid of mine, I go over to dinner at my co workers and come home to my apartment of which is usually filled with gospel music and praying. However; I came home today to no peace at all. I feel suffocated, I have pain in the front of my head, I feel confused I can’t think straight, I feel burdened, weighed down, completely heavy. I’ve been praying over this mattress since I got home tonight. I haven’t had a chance to even sleep on it I will not stay in my apartment tonight, not because I’m scared but because the feeling will not leave. I’ve rebuked everything I could think of I’ve anointed the mattress I’ve prayed over it. I know it’s witchcraft, I have sensed this presence before when I stayed in an Indian hotel with all of these statues that felt the exact same way as this. As I slept in the hotel I would wake up feeling awful. I have gospel music playing and have been worshipping but I can barely breathe. From what I know of the lady now after I’ve gotten the mattress she has a heart condition and a pacemaker maker, she also practices yoga and has experienced a lot of abuse, her mother was an alcoholic and she has sec outside of marriage. I’m not trying to gossip or slander I’m just trying to identify what I’m dealing with other than the witch craft. I don’t know what to do about it at this point, I already got rid of my mattress.
Cori, Wow – what a difficult situation you are in! Thanks for posting your question here. I am sorry you are dealing with this but I have a feeling that God is allowing you to learn some new things through these circumstances, even though it is uncomfortable. First of all, a curse cannot affect you if it has no legal ground (some form of agreement with darkness). Ask the Lord if there is a generational curse you need to break. Another thing – did you dedicate the mattress to the Lord for His kingdom purposes? I would do that and then ask Him to wash off of it anything that is attached. I love the fact that you are worshipping and trying to shift the atmosphere – good for you! That should clear the air. If you do all this and you still feel terrible, invite another believer to join you. Two can put 10,000 to flight. Lastly, you could go to the courtroom in heaven (if the oppression is still bothering you) and ask for restitution because the enemy is trying to steal this mattress from you – here’s my post on going to court: https://supernaturaldiscernment.com/2023/03/08/courts-of-heaven-where-justice-prevails/. FlyHigh94, thank you for your question. Yes, you can have an uncomfortable feeling in your house after someone stayed there. It might not be God sending the uncomfortable feeling. It could be the presence of a spirit that was with that person that is making you uncomfortable. God could be alerting you that something is not right by letting you feel this uncomfortable feeling. That’s how discernment works – you sense something is not right. Hi, I have only today discovered this site, which has already been helpful. I have a question myself and was looking for somewhere to ask it when I came upon this question and I may have something that helps.
I had a similar experience and one time when I was once again asking the Lord if I had done something I needed to confess or was there anything in the house I needed to get rid of etc, I thought I heard the Lord speak to me about the power of leaders over me. If a person who has authority over me, (husband, pastor, teacher, employer etc) is speaking negative words over me or about me, their words can release negative assignments in the spiritual realms.
I wasn’t sure if this was me or the Lord but the following day, I received a book I had ordered by Randy Clark about deliverance, The biblical guidebook to Deliverance. I was amazed to find that he shared something similar in his book. In the chapter on curses he spoke how someone can unintentionally curse another person by the words they say about them.
Randy recommended a prayer that Derek Prince used. Lord I desire to be set free from any curse over my life. I will do whatever it takes to be delivered from them and to walk in the freedom you purchased for me.
When I read it, I said to the Lord ‘But your word says that a curse ’causeless’ cannot stand’ Proverbs 26:2. He answered me by saying ‘Is it causeless?’. I realised that there were things I needed to repent of regarding the way I spoke about people myself. I repented and things began to change.
I hope this helps. Randy also speaks of purposed curses and generational curses in his book, one of these might be relevant in your case.
