Spirits of Chaos & Control – Can You Recognize Them?
Chaos cannot control you unless you let it.
This week, a cloud of the Spirit of Control came over my region. I sensed it – it felt like witchcraft, a means of controlling people’s choices by manipulating their thoughts.
The next day I felt the Spirit of Chaos in the atmosphere. It also affects your mind and tries to keep you distracted from what you need to do.
Chaos is the feeling you get when you are trying to multi-task and you keep being interrupted by others so that you cannot finish anything you are trying to do. It’s kind of like having extreme ADD come over you.
You can’t focus on what you are doing and you feel frustrated. Your thinking may feel foggy. It might also interfere with your sleep, which can also affect your ability to think clearly.
Chaos tries to overwhelm your thinking because then you become vulnerable to being manipulated. I hate that!
I started to feel overwhelmed so I stopped what I was doing and began focusing on the Holy Spirit within me. As I did, peace and clarity came back almost immediately. It was awesome!
That’s when the gift of discernment kicked in. Holy Spirit showed me it was the Spirit of Chaos that was operating in the atmosphere and that’s why I couldn’t think and was feeling overwhelmed.
Thank you, Father, for sending us the Holy Spirit! What a wonderful, desperately needed gift!!
Where would we be without the Holy Spirit? 🙂
Holy Spirit reminded me that the Spirits of Chaos and Control often work together. Chaos creates fear because of the uncertainty of what is going on. Then Control comes in reaction to the fear, trying to restore certainty and security.
For instance, when the pandemic came, fear was most people’s response to the chaos and uncertainty brought by this unknown virus and its consequences. Then that was immediately followed by a strong desire to control everything in order to restore a sense of security. We saw this both on a personal level as well as on a social and even national level. First there was Chaos, fear was the reaction and then Control sought to stop the chaos.
I’m not sure whether these spirits work together as a team or whether they are fighting with each other for authority over the affairs of men. If you have any insight on this, please feel free to share your thoughts so we can learn from each other.
I discovered that there was a cloud of dust traveling from Africa and it was over my region in the United States. It arrived the same time I began experiencing the Spirits of Chaos and Control. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

P.S. I’ve also seen Spirits of Chaos and Confusion work together but only on a personal level. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Chaos and Confusion work together on a regional or societal level. Have you?

Discernment of the Supernatural Realm 
Your posts are SO EXTREMELY helpful! On 2 separate occasions I was going through a HEAVY battle (spiritually, emotionally, and mentally) and your email appeared! All of a sudden this morning I found myself praying through chaos, harassment, confusion, and even thoughts of suicide began to surface (which is not an option or a thought). After taking communion and declaring the mind of Christ, Holy Spirit then revealed a person to me that I was carrying. Once He opened my eyes to this person and what they were going through, it immediately lifted! I believe the gift of discerning of spirits and/or the capacity to carry others as an intercessor is intensifying! It was SO STRONG! I thought I was losing it! Thank you! God bless!

Yes, I definitely think we need a greater level of discernment in these times. Holy Spirit is showing me a lot and it seems random. This is interesting, I didn’t realize about the cloud of dust, I’m in Canada, Alberta to be exact and I felt it as an angry chaos churning around me, trying to make me feel angry. I knew it wasn’t from me…I have nothing to be angry about. I told it to withdraw and go back to it’s creator, which sometimes helps. The important thing is to realize its not our energy!

Please don’t second guess what He’s downloading to you. It is far from ‘random’. It is a HUGE and HIGHLY strategic for the body! Question: When you are discerning something, does Holy Spirit reveal right away or do you have to pray through it? I’m learning and discerning a lot quicker (especially with carrying burdens of others). Nonetheless, it has been very intense what I’m carrying for someone, while at the same time that I am going through it! I know that God is using all of this to train me and to train others. Please forgive you’ve received this twice. I had some trouble replying.
Thank you for your encouragement. To answer your question – it depends. Often the Holy Spirit will reveal immediately what is happening – as soon as I slow down, pay attention and ask. Holy Spirit doesn’t tell me if I don’t ask. But sometimes I don’t get the information until I need it. I’ve always said that information like this is on a need to know basis – you’ll know when you need to know. If it’s bothering me, then I keep asking until I get some clarity or until the oppression leaves. It really helps to have others to talk to who also sense things – getting confirmation can really shift things quickly!

We experience chaos demons regularly. They are often hidden by other demon types- pride and others. I don’t normally talk about these things with people. This is a daily thing for my family. We asked the spirits why they are here, always with lots of talking to God and following his leading about what to do with them, and lately he has often had me send them to him. Sometimes the spirits say what they are actually doing/their real names, and sometimes they lie.
I appreciate what you said about fear and chaos. Sometimes there is fear after the chaos and sometimes the fear spirits hide while the chaos attacks are happening. Then the control ones come in (they have been hiding also, or just them because sometimes there aren’t fear demons). Chaos demons often attack children. Chaos demons keep them from seeing spiritually sometimes. Other evil spirits do the same thing.
Lauren, thank you for sharing your experience and thank you for your encouraging words. I am sorry you are experiencing Chaos regularly in your family – that sounds challenging. May the Lord give you peace and grace (and wisdom) as you follow His leading. I’m sure you are learning a lot! Hopefully you can share what you’ve learned with others someday. I know this is an old post, but is related to a current issue I’m having with discerning of spirits. Maybe (if led or time permits) you can shine some light on it or share your experience with something similar.
Over the past 2-3 years I have been sensing or discerning through a spiritual ‘burning’ impression on my left leg only.
Note: [I use to feel God or had an impression in my belly when He would alert me to pray, spend time with Him or that something was lurking. This impression in my belly stopped when the burning leg started].
Since the new (leg) impression started, I’ve been seeking God for revelation, insight, and understanding of what He is showing me with each encounter (depending on what part of my left leg I feel it—top of my left thigh; left knee or underneath my left thigh).
I pray I’m not long winded with my details but I wanted to open up to someone (it can be lonely as God is revealing Himself to you in secret and developing you prophetically—even those who I know are walking in the supernatural/prophetic hasn’t experienced discernment in this way)..please forgive if it’s too much. 🙏🏽
Here’s what He has revealed and what it means to ‘me’ ‘personally’
First, He has revealed that the impression on my thigh is a reminder of His burden(s) that He has called me to bear.
Left side: The Hebrew word for “left” is smowl, which can also mean “dark.” The “left hand” of the Lord speaks of the mysteries of His ways—the unseen activities of grace, which are so little understood.
Mystery/work/To do
“On the left hand, where He doth work, but I cannot behold (perceive, mentally, comprehend) Him.” Job 23:9
-this has confirmed (through encounter and His word) what He desires to reveal to me and that I am to continuously seek Him out for His mysteries to be revealed—
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.” Prov 25:2
The only one I’m certain of is underneath my thigh that I have back up with scripture and when it occurs is underneath my thigh:
“hand under the thigh”
a promise to swear loyalty to fulfill vows; show subjugation by putting ones hand underneath the thigh of the master as if to say “I am under your dominion.”
This refers to a solemn oath, as seen in Gen 24:2,3, 9, where Abraham’s put his hand under his master’s thigh to swear a promise. This ancient gesture was a BINDING ACT, invoking the lineage and future progeny symbolized by the thigh and was used for EXTREMELY IMPORTANT COMMITMENTS or OATHS. Also thigh represents the name, identity, strength, power or weight His name represents (or God’s) signature, consent or intent)
“And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Rev 19:16 This also represents this season of God revealing the covenant, and vows I have with Him and He with me. Not just vows as I must do this or that or keep my promise but vows as in ‘marriage’ or helping to better understand that through ‘Christ’ (His Spirit and the Father) we have unity with them as ONE -(getting delivered from an orphan spirit and He has been graciously and patiently helping me to understand His love without performance, or needing to prove myself worthy of His blessings or choosing me through my obedience or perfection or doing acts of obedience to deserve His love).
Also, yes to remind me to (with His grace) to obey the commandments that has He given me according my eternal ordination or dealings.
The knee is no brainer—submit to God
On the top of my thigh is where it gets complicated.
At times I’m certain it’s witchcraft. I feel the intense burning, I pray that any evil lurking, being plotted or attempted be revealed and aborted. Shortly afterwards, something breaks out, is attempted but doesn’t prosper.
Other times, I sense it above, and underneath at the same time (intensely sensing/discern during heavy spiritual activity or warfare in the atmosphere). Then it becomes perplexing. Which is why I gave the meanings (above), to give a little more details to help with what I’d like to share.
Example: Since last year He has been having me spend more time than ever in my prayer closet. A couple of weeks ago (mother’s day w/e) I felt the sensation under my thigh every time I went to eat, or drink. Therefore, I discerned a dry fast. I resisted at first (due to the Lord revealing over the years through dreams that He didn’t need my help, and that it was HIS turn to do the work—since, I tend to go above and beyond what I’m asked—in other words, ‘overkill’ with my obedience to prove I am committed-performance. When I fast, I not only turn over my plate, shut everyone and everything out that’s a distraction from hearing Him or gives my flesh comfort..didn’t realize I was helping..I just wanted to do His will 😔). Anyway, after several times I pressed to eat anyway, just to make sure it was not ‘me’, the burning intensified.
So, I did a 3 day fast.
After 2 days into the fast, my heart began to palpitate. I could see it beating through my chest from extreme dehydration, acid reflux developed from the empty stomach-day 1, and I developed a yeast infection. That has never happened during a dry fast before (I’ve done several over the years and each time they were successful).
I ended it.
A week later, it happened again—leg burning as I attempted to eat or drink. I refused to do the fast. I needed Him to compel me in another way but my leg wouldn’t let up. Instead of doing the dry fast, I hydrated all day on electrolytes just in case. Then the next day I kept feeling the push to not eat or drink, so I started. From 9pm Wed—6am Fri 33 hours. I’m saying this not to boast, but sharing this because during those 33 hrs I wasn’t hungry, maybe a little thirsty, but throughout the night Fri, my low lower back (kidney area) began to throb, my heart began to palpitate and hurt a little (all symptoms of severe dehydration). I stopped immediately, and began sipping room temp water. I thought I needed to go to the ER but I laid hands on my body, continued to hydrate and rested (mind you I also hadn’t slept in over 24 hrs due to the Lord disrupting my sleep to pray, a LOT…I figured that couldn’t be the enemy wanting me to pray).
From these occurrences, it has caused me to doubt if the enemy is trying to confuse me by counterfeiting the voice of God.
Since last year, I was led to consecrate and spend a lot of quiet time with Him. He told me it was a training season.
It’s been a whirlwind-with different spiritual encounter-demonic attacks, bright lights/angelic presence, etc and then very dry at times.
To be honest—lots of confusing moments Yet, I’ve heard from a lot of prophetic voices it is a part of the refining season to get ‘flesh’ out of the way.
This was a post from a prophetic group I follow (I hadn’t been on social media much, but this day I hoped on this appeared):

But what if it’s actually discernment? What if this tension you feel… this back and forth in your mind… is you learning how to hear God for real?
AND IT’S THROWING YOU OFF You thought hearing God would feel clear. Instead? You’re overthinking. Second-guessing. Replaying every decision. One minute you’re sure. Next minute… you’re questioning everything.
SO LET’S FIX THIS REAL QUICK Nothing is wrong with you. You’re not “bad at hearing God.” You’re learning how to tell His voice apart from yours.
THIS IS DISCERNMENT Not clarity. Not certainty. Not always getting it right. It’s learning how to separate God’s voice… from your thoughts, your emotions, and the noise.
AND THIS PART WILL HUMBLE YOU God will let you be wrong. Not to embarrass you. But to show you what was you… and what was Him.
AND YOU START MOVING DIFFERENT You pause more. You don’t say yes so quickly. You pay attention to what feels off. Not because you’re confused… but because you’re becoming discerning.
THIS IS WHAT GROWTH LOOKS LIKE Not getting everything right. But learning faster. Hearing clearer. Trusting God more. ____________________________________

Nonetheless, believe it or not, a big part of me knows it all Him, because despite the ups and downs, I feel stronger in Him, discern the growth and maturity, despite how my mind or the enemy of my soul may fight me.

Chara, thank you for sharing your experience and providing the background information regarding your question. I have not experienced a physical discernment like what you described. But I will tell you one thing to keep in mind – there is a BIG difference between discernment coming from outside of yourself versus what comes from within. When I was learning how to tell the difference, that’s what the Lord taught me. What comes from outside of me can be manipulated by the enemy and cause me confusion. But I can always trust what Holy Spirit confirms within me because the enemy cannot replicate that – only the Holy Spirit has access to my inner man/spirit.
I have felt that burning spiritual energy at times on my body – I usually define that as an angel touching me. Is it a good angel or a fallen angel – that’s where you need the Holy Spirit within to confirm whether you should respond to it.
Angels do work with us to do God’s will – sending messages, for instance. It take practice to learn how to discern why they are there.
If you sensed witchcraft, it could be the spirit of Divination. It often tries to confuse those who operate in prophetic gifts by mimicking the gifts of the Holy Spirit like word of wisdom, word of knowledge, etc. It is very easy to be misled or get confused by Divination. I think part of our training is learning how to tell the difference between all the various kinds of voices, messages, touch, etc. that we experience. No condemnation – we are all on this journey together, learning as we go!
This chart can be very helpful in determining which voice/message you are getting – you can judge it by the way it affects you:
The more I quiet my mind/understanding and just listen and rest in my heart/spirit, clarity comes. I’ve learned that when I am “trying to figure it out”, that’s usually when Divination is taking advantage of me. When I’m trying to figure it out, I’m leaning on my own understanding instead of simply letting the Lord reveal it to me.
So if that burning on your leg happened to me, I would pause and ask Holy Spirit inside of me, Lord, is this You? If I didn’t get an answer, I would ignore it. If it happened again, I would pause and ask again. Holy Spirit would confirm it, if it’s something I need to pay attention to. If not, I would command it to leave. If it happened again, I would ask the Lord, Why does this thing have access to me? Because at this point, I would assume it is happening because God wants to reveal something to me that I need to become free of – might be related to an open door in my life that I didn’t realize was open, might be related to a generational curse I am unaware of, etc. Because if Holy Spirit is NOT confirming it, then it is not coming from God.
