Physical Symptoms of Discernment
Sometimes you can experience physical sensations in your body that tell you something is going on in the unseen realm. Has this ever happened to you?
A reader of the blog sent me this question:
“I sometime will feel the sensation of worms or ants crawling under my skin. Sometimes it will be all over my body, other times just on my head or back of shoulders. I know I’m sensing something demonic and it partly has to do with the enemy speaking lies and trying to manipulate. Why do I feel it in different places and what is the Lord trying to tell me?”
Good question! I had never experienced this before so I sent this question to a few friends who are gifted with discernment and have been walking with the Lord for a long time. Three people told me they had experienced it before. Two people said it was related to witchcraft. Witchcraft is a form of manipulation.
Regarding why it is felt in different places – one person replied that the location on the body didn’t make any difference to him. It was just God’s way of getting his attention that something wasn’t right and he needed to pay attention. Another person responded that the different locations are likely tied into the type of witchcraft – perhaps one is atmospheric witchcraft (on the head) whereas the one on the back is a specific person manipulating you.
Very interesting responses – I like that each person had their own experience of this and was able to provide some insight. We see in part and know in part (I Cor 13:9-12). This is why I started this blog – to open the conversation regarding this topic because none of us has it all together!
This question made me start thinking of other physical symptoms of discernment – what I mean is you have a physical sensation in your body and this tells you something spiritual or unseen may be happening. Often you also get a certain kind of “knowing” that it’s not just a physical sensation, especially if it happens suddenly. There are no “rules” that say, “This symptom always correlates to this particular spirit”. I know that makes it hard for those who are just starting out. The key is to never assume. Just ask the Holy Spirit – He will tell you what you need to know. If you don’t get an answer, maybe you don’t need to know. Or sometimes you might be asking the wrong question.
Why aren’t there “rules”? Because spiritual gifts are meant to draw you closer to Jesus. You become more dependent on Him as you seek Him for understanding. If there was a simple chart or book that explained it all, then why would you need to depend on Him? You could just lean on your own understanding – not a good idea, when it comes to spiritual warfare and discerning what it happening in the unseen realm.
That being said, here are some symptoms that people have experienced in relation to specific spiritual influences. This might help you as you ask the Lord what is happening – if nothing else, it might make you feel better that you’re not crazy and you’re not alone. (One of the main reasons this blog exists, by the way!)
Witchcraft:
Sudden sharp headache – might feel like an ice pick in one side of the head
Ringing in the ears, also means something is shifting in the spirit realm (usually not good)
Sudden Nausea
Painful pressure on the chest
Fear:
Butterflies or knots in the stomach
Tension on the back of the neck, tingling up the spine
Eyes twitching/burning – May be blocked from seeing in the spirit
Ears irritated/plugged – May be blocked from hearing from the Lord
Feeling of being squeezed – Python/Divination
Pain in the lungs when breathing – Needs filling with the Holy Spirit, related to Python perhaps?
Sharp pain in lower left stomach – Rejection
Heaviness on the shoulders – Carrying a heavy burden that was not meant for them
Sudden drowsiness – Leviathan, a spirit that comes against leaders & their followers
Sometimes when you experience one of these symptoms, the discernment is for YOU. To warn you to pay attention and pray for more clarity. Sometimes you are discerning something for another person. It’s very important that when physical symptoms suddenly come that you ask the Lord to help you figure out whether it is for you or for someone else. Also use some common sense and determine whether your body is responding to something in the natural realm. Don’t ignore physical symptoms. But also be careful not to over-spiritualize them. If they are part of the gift of discernment, then the Lord will give you clarity as to what to do with them. Once you take the action He tells you (pray, decree, bind, loose or whatever), the symptom will disappear. If it doesn’t, it might just be a headache. Rest, drink water and it will go away. 🙂

Before I knew what discernment was, I thought there was something wrong with me. My ex husband had a lot of evil spirits with him (which God revealed to me at one point aftera few years) and I would have a constant headache and feel unable to think clearly when he was around. It was significant when he was away and would come back. I hadn’t realized that it was the spirits with him that caused it and thought it was something physically wrong with me. They also affected my son and made him very irritable, hyperactive and angry.
Mary, I think a lot of people can relate to your comment! Discernment is so odd sometimes that it’s very easy to mistake your symptoms for something being wrong with YOU. In fact, I think a lot of people suffer with symptoms that are not sickness – they are just in toxic environments and their body is trying to tell them about it. I’m glad you realized it – I hope it helped you deal with the symptoms. Children and young pets are especially sensitive to it – their symptoms are a good indication that something is not right.

I operate in the gift of discernment ( still growing in it)-recently I’ve experienced a sensation of crawling( like insects) on my face and head…it Happened twice during worship at our church and also at my work place.
We prayed against witchcraft and any demon causing the crawling sensation rebuking it!It lessened but left a very slight crawling feel on my head….could it be something else that I need to pray against?
Hi Tania, thanks for your question. I am not sure why you still have a slight crawling feeling on your head. Perhaps there is something more the Lord wants to show you. I’ve noticed that when things don’t go away after praying that often the Lord wants me to seek Him for more depth of understanding. Yes, This site was very helpful! I have been having pains in my right shoulder area down into my chest. When I have those I know that there is an evil presence around! I will pray and then the atmosphere changes and becomes peaceful!!

I experienced the crawling sensation on my head and face recently…We prayed against witchcraft and it definitely lessened but was not completely gone. My husband and I then prayed in tongues for 2 good sessions and it is now gone.

Hope you are well.😁 Do you perhaps know what spirit is operating for the following: I’ve noticed that initially the person will give advice -same advice for many times to a person but the person they are advising doesn’t change or follow their advice. The advisor then gets frustrated and irritated and starts belittling the person regarding the area where the advice was given. Noticed this pattern in a family. Tania, thank you for your question. That is Control and Manipulation and possibly Intimidation. When someone’s advice is not followed (especially someone who cares a lot or has a vested interest in you or your future), they begin to be afraid of what you might do (I’m using the word “you” in general, it applies to everyone). They cannot control your actions and they either fear for you or they fear for themselves if you do not follow their advice. Sometimes it is well meaning (as most mothers will say) but sometimes it is selfish – if you do something on your own, it leaves them out and they may feel ignored, overlooked or devalued in some way. This is especially true of insecure people – they may take it personally that you are not listening to them. Control means they want to control your action – this is usually motivated by Fear. Manipulation means they want to make you feel a certain way – that you are somehow “less than” them if you don’t take their advice (i.e. you’re “stupid” or “you don’t know what you’re doing” or “you don’t have what it takes to do that”). Intimidation means they actually try to instill fear in you to bully you into doing what they want. It usually comes with a threat, either implied or spoken – for instance, “if you leave this house, I’ll cut you out of my will” or “if you marry that man, I’ll never speak to you again”.
What can you do? If it’s someone you respect (i.e. a parent or a spouse), you can validate their advice but still stick to your decision. “Mom, I appreciate what you are saying, but I really think this is the best decision for me right now.” Then smile and walk away before an argument starts. 🙂 If it’s someone who is just pushy about giving advice and you don’t want to hear it anymore, then you can simply stop the conversation as soon as they bring it up. “Stop! I do not want to discuss my future with you any longer. I’ve made up my mind. Please don’t bring this up again.”
Pray for the person who is giving the advice that they would be at Peace and not be afraid. If you have a strong enough relationship, you can gently ask, “What are you afraid might happen if I don’t take your advice?” Maybe there are some consequences you have not thought of – or maybe they need to be reminded that God can be trusted and they need to let go.

Welsh, that is an excellent question! And no, I don’t know any books that talk about this topic, specifically physical symptoms of discernment. There are so FEW books on discernment – that’s one of the reasons I started this blog several years ago. What I know, the Lord has taught me because there’s so little teaching or information available in print. I’m hoping as the Lord highlights the importance of discernment that more people will write good books about it. I’ve got notebooks full of experiences and revelation … so I share what I can from time to time. Sorry I couldn’t offer something more! Thank you for your question. Hello. There are two books I can suggest – both the author is James W. Goll, The Discerner and The Seer. Now he just released another book, The Feeler.
I learned I am a discerner years ago but to this day I am not sure where this gift fits in the church. So far I am just using it where I serve in the church but I have not shared with anyone in the church because it is usually misunderstood and I don’t want people to think I am a prophet because there are instances where I get to know things without being told or pray for people and things and be spot on without knowing anything and people asking how did you know. This gift flourish in prayer, mine started developing through intercession God would burden me with people and I would have an urge to pray for them. Once I started praying, God would pray for their issues with my mouth. I pray and pray for a lot of people, God leading me and the spirit giving utterances .

I’ve read them, but I don’t recall that he addresses the topic of physical discernment very much. I found his books scratch the surface of discerning, feeling, seeing – they can be helpful if you are very new to the unseen realm and supernatural gifts. It’s been driving me crazy that I cant find biblical reference for it, so, do you have any?
Jonathan, thanks for your comment and question. I’m glad you liked this post and I’m happy to hear you’ve been walking in this gift of discernment for a few years. The only Bible reference I could think of regarding the unseen realm affecting your physical body is in Revelation 10:8-11. That’s where John is given a little scroll to eat and when he does, it upsets his stomach. But it doesn’t specifically relate to discernment. I’ve noticed the Bible hardly mentions how the gift of discerning of spirits works – and for good reason. As I mentioned in the post above, there’s no “rules” for this gift because it’s supposed to draw you to Jesus to ask HIM what’s going on (instead of relying on bible verses or principles to figure it out on your own). Part of operating in spiritual gifts means relying on the Holy Spirit. It reminds me of what John said at the end of his gospel, “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” (John 21:25) I don’t think we’re supposed to be looking for a bible verse for everything … I think we are supposed to be following Jesus. He will show us because the world could not contain all the book that would be written if He made sure it was all written down for us. 🙂 Hope that helps!
Hello and God Bless. I been trying to find an answer to something I been experiencing – I’m still learning my gift of discernment. Just this weekend I was driving and got this strong pressure on my chest then it’s like travels to my shoulder on the same side. It feels heavy but then I got hot in my chest and had to pull over and starting vomiting a lot. I’ve had this on and off for the last year I’d say. I don’t understand it. Sometimes it makes my head spin and I feel a panic attack – this comes out of no where.
Priscilla, thank you for your comment. I am not familiar with the kind of symptoms that you described. I would get checked out by a doctor to rule out any medical issues first – those symptoms sound serious. The panic attack is Fear. Something is trying to block your ability to “see” clearly. I would ask the Holy Spirit to give you clarity and show you what you need to see.
Very helpful post, got captured by Priscilla’s comment and I can attest to having experienced vomiting too often to count. At first it came about through deliverance but when it did not stop I felt there was something more to it and started to pray about it, seeking the Lord for a solution and nothing has happened thus far instead I gradually noticed that when I would smell something strange in the atmosphere, of course something that others didn’t smell, I would vomit and immediately pray in tongues which were by themselves strange because I felt like I was at war from the tone of the tongues. Later on the phenomenon would occur more at home after feeling paralysed from physical pain only to realise that it was someone else’s pain and after every similar occurrence I would realise the person with the actual affliction would get better instantly. I am still seeking the Lord to reveal more to me my path in Him because the discernment of people’s physical pain and sickness is heightened even more during a fast. I remember a time I encountered someone who had just come out from a deliverance session, I had smelt a very bad stench from her a week before the session and had a terrible headache at the time, and on this particular day after the session when she came to speak to me I had to run to the bathroom without warning… that was embarrassing to me. I do not know what to do except to obey the Lord’s teaching of his mysteries.
Gloria, thank you for sharing your experience. Wow, I am so sorry that you keep having to vomit. That must be really uncomfortable. I often yawn, which is also often experienced during deliverance but it’s only mildly embarrassing (when it happens repeatedly in social situations). I wish I had a “solution” for you – the only thing I can think of is to ask the Lord to remove it or replace it with something like yawning for deliverance. I’m sure there’s a reason why it is happening. Perhaps someone reading this will have some insight for you. God bless you for your faithfulness! ❤

Thank you for this post! I am experiencing something similar except it’s not a crawling sensation more of a tingling. It’s happened to me 3 times, the first I was helping pray for a lady that was being liberated and the spirit that was on her tried jumping on me and oppressed me (confirmed by a prophet) and everytime I would go to pray maybe for a good 2 weeks that strange tingling feeling would be there having me nauseous anxious uneasy and panicky but the prophet who confirmed it also prayed over me and it was gone. The second time I was at church and we were told to pray for the person sitting beside us so I was praying for this lady I could feel from her that she was sad so I started focusing my prayer on her strength and right when I was speaking in tongues that strong tingling feeling came over me again it always happens at the top of my head and goes down my back and and it just had me feeling really uneasy not as extreme as the first but I just felt strange. This time I didn’t tell anyone about it but eventually the uneasy panicky anxious feeling went away on its own after about 2 days and the 3rd time!! I was watching an apostle preach on YouTube and I was a little distracted so I made myself really focus on what she was saying and sure enough the tingling came my chest got heavy I felt it was hard to breathe it seemed like a demonic manifestation was going to take place but nothing happened I just felt super uneasy and heavy spiritually afterward. Is this discernment, oppression again, or some form of warfare? Thank you
Kayla, thank you for sharing your experience. I’m not sure what to tell you. It could be discernment or could be warfare. Only the Lord can tell you. Ask Holy Spirit to show you and He will. When you read something that is not right, your discernment can tell you that – getting a hot sensation might be telling you to be careful or to stop reading. Yes, things that are right feel like Light – that is discernment too. There are many ways that the gift of discernment works – basically anything that gives you a warning of some kind – that protects you and helps you make good decisions. I’ve had all symptoms of witchcraft said above ever since I broke off a generational curse of Freemason. When I read the Bible I get ALL of those symptoms and also whenever I pray. The sudden sharp pains that occur in the middle of the night are severe and frequent. I’m usually by myself so I’m not discerning it on someone else. Have you ever heard of this?
I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing these painful symptoms. I would encourage you to ask the Lord whether there are other generational curses related to witchcraft that are affecting you. Ask the Lord to take you to the Courts of Heaven and ask if there are any judgments against you. They can be removed there. It might be that since you broke this curse, you have become more sensitive to when witchcraft is targeting you or the area where you live. Besides the generational curses, ask the Lord to show you anywhere you might have unconscious agreement with witchcraft. I often pray before I go to sleep, “I cancel all witchcraft and any word curses spoken concerning me or anything associated with me, in Jesus’ name. What are the repercussions and consequences of a person with a gift of the spirit of discernment that becomes furious and struggles with controlling their emotions when it comes to a situation of bullying? (because they are gifted and can strip someone’s soul away with accuracy) Because they are feeling provoked by the bully and aren’t able to control their emotions. Just curious.
Amanda, thank you for your question. It makes sense to get mad – bullies are not nice people. However if dealing with a bully causes you to use your gift to “strip someone’s soul away with accuracy”, then the consequence is that you become a bully yourself. That’s not what you want to do. The secret is to avoid bullies or if that is not possible, then learn to walk away BEFORE you get furious. Bullies like to “push your buttons” – they know exactly what to say to upset you. You can deactivate those buttons through inner healing and learning to walk away before you get triggered. Ask Holy Spirit to show you what you need to do. Ask Jesus to help you heal on the inside and give you peace. Sometimes bullies need someone to stand up to them and say, No! You cannot treat me that way! But it’s not usually necessary to “strip their soul” – let God deal with them. He knows exactly what they need. I hope this helps. God bless you. 🙂
At times I feel like I’m having anxiety?
I feel burning through my body, shaking & tingling. I always pray, Lord, what is it that you want or need for me to know, so I know what to pray? I have done this for years ….. is this discernment?
Sometimes I have to pray for God to take some of the stronger feelings, cause I can’t take anymore. It it so overwhelming.
Wow, that does sound uncomfortable. What has the Lord shown you? I have heard people say they feel tingly or shaky in the presence of God. I’ve seen a minister friend of mine that begins to shake/tremble whenever he prays intense prayers. I have heard people describe the fire of God as a burning feeling in their body. I have felt that before in my arms/shoulders. I’m not sure what you might be discerning other than maybe the Fear of the Lord or the Awe of God’s presence? Does that fit what you are experiencing? 🙂
I tried out a new church. Every time I go there, there is such heaviness. I feel irritated and nauseated. The choir has beautiful voices, but they feel cold to me. They keep saying, The Spirit of the Lord is there and people get slain in the spirit, but I feel so cold. Didn’t want to go back to the church from day 1 since I found it – so unbearable to be there, but somehow I keep returning. Been praying for the church.
Tammy, wow – that sounds terrible. I don’t think I would go back unless Father directed you to go. Trust your discernment – if something feels “off”, it probably is! It is possible you are discerning the truth about that church – even though it looks good “on the outside”, something is not right. When I feel irritated and nauseated, it means witchcraft – someone has an agenda and they are using manipulation or intimidation to get everyone to do what they want. Are you supposed to be there? If so, stay guarded. If not, please find somewhere that has light, love, kindness, warmth and Life! Because that’s what Jesus is – He is Love, Light and Life! I’m sad to say, what you are describing does not sound like a church that follows Jesus. 😥
I have the gift of discernment and it is only the Holy Spirit and the Word I’ve gone to to learn….it is VERY intense. When there is a lot of warfare in the atmosphere; my physical symptoms range from anxiety to feeling like electricity is running through my body. My eyes burn and it gets harder to see. It’s almost as if I sense all the frequencies. It like a screaming high pitched noise all around me. I get dizzy if I move my head too fast and my mind fills so blank like it’s filled with clouds. Very weird and hard to explain to people. Just sounds crazy when I try to talk about it. I believe it’s a spirit of witchcraft working over the region I live in. I do my best to pray and be aware. Sometimes it’s so bad I completely forget how to do anything. It would be nice to talk to someone who deals with the same types of things. I do not want to give the enemy any attention really…..but I know I have to be aware. Thank you for this
Jessica, wow – that does sound intense! I am so sorry. It must make you feel like you’re “crazy” especially if you try to tell other people what you are experiencing. I get it. We live in a world that most are unaware of. I can relate. I used to be really affected by the witchcraft in my region (South Florida), especially every time a thunderstorm rolled in. Here are two tips that helped me. 1. When I can’t think or can’t seem to pray, I start praying in tongues out loud. At first, it seems like nothing is happening, but after a few minutes, my mind starts to clear and the pressure starts backing off. If I can, I start to sing worship songs and that further clears the atmosphere. Another thing that really helped me was breaking any agreement with witchcraft off my bloodline that may have access to me through generational curses. There are a lot of ministries that offer this and there are many prayers you can pray to do this. It comes off in layers – it’s not a “one size fits all” kind of prayer that you do one time. Paul Cox at Aslan’s Place has some very extensive prayers that might help. He’s learned a lot about the legal rights of the enemy and how to nullify them off our bloodlines. At times when I have discernment I have a tingling sensation all through my body very strongly , sometimes mistaken for anxiety .
At times I’d be irritated and angry .
There’s times I have to get on my knees and ask Jesus to lift this feeling from me because I can’t handle it . I pray and seek God for the discernment that He wants me to know . I’ve done this for yrs .
Is it normal to feel this way ?
Lisa, thank you for sharing your experience. You asked if it’s “normal” – I would say, yes, it is not unusual. At the same time, you can shift it if you want to. It doesn’t have to stay that way. I would encourage you to find someone to help you break off any assignments of witchcraft that may be affecting you. You can also learn more about how to work with the discernment you have so that it is not overwhelming. As you become more free and confident of your identity in Christ, you will feel more empowered to deal with these kinds of experiences. I get many sensations in my body when praying for or ministering to people and the Holy Spirit has taught me about many of them. However, I am wondering if anyone has any insight into what severe bone pain in the arm would mean when you are praying for someone? It has occurred on three separate occasions with three different individuals.
Thank you for posting your question, Pattie. I’m sorry – I don’t have any insight on that one. I spoke to another minister and she said she didn’t have anything either. Perhaps someone else can help, if they read your question. Physical discernment is so specific, especially when you are praying for someone else. It seems like the bone pain would represent some kind of hindrance that is affecting them, but other than that I have no insight for you. Yesterday matter of fact, I was 40 minutes away from the usual location where both these individuals will be and I felt it and I looked around and I was feeling the same kind of feelings of physical ailments, painful chest, just a overall presence and I looked up and there they were! confirmation from the most high God to pay attention and I began to pray, bind and rebuke it in Jesus of Nazareth name, and the war completed on Calvary the death of burial and the resurrectio.n also no weapon formed against me shall prosper.

I’m very grateful I’m not the only one who experiences this. I have so much more to learn but I’d like to explain my experiences of spiritual discernment. My name is Jordan, I’m 20 years old. I went to college for a semester but left from the lack of enjoyment on the major I chose. With this spiritual gift, I wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations on what I should do for a career with this gift. I’ve had this gift for a whole year now and I’ve learned a lot about it. I can pick up on emotions from other people, demonic spirits by sensing their touch, demonic faces manifest when I close my eyes or I look at the reflection of my eyes in the mirror and hear different voices in my head. Some emotions I picked up (when I discern these, I feel them from other people around me) was a heavy feeling in my chest (sadness/pain) and anger with bitterness/resentment. I can feel demonic touches anywhere on my body. Sometimes it is stronger sensation like when I feel I’m being choked (Python spirit). Other times it is light touches or a crawling sensation on my skin. I also feel stabbing pains, burning sensations, scratches, etc. I feel touches every point of the day. There’s never a time where I don’t feel something. The only time I don’t feel anything is when I distract myself. Believe me, I felt I was crazy when I was first given this gift. Demons are everywhere, attached or unattached to people. Sometimes to demonic objects or the atmosphere. Some other experiences I’ve witnessed from my skin being so sensitive is that I’ve seen words written in scratches on my face. “Hi” written backwards so I could read it in the mirror. There’s also been a heart written on my cheek, copying what I had on my shirt that night. It may be hard to believe but a demon of lust attached to me, when I first got this gift, and touched me sexually against my will (many different times at night). It was able to do so, because I had not repented of sexual sin I had done in my past. Even now I feel presences (I’m not sure if a demon or a human that has passed on) sleeping in my bed, like the bed weighs down from something there. Just today (me and my mom) smelled weed in my room. Even though I do not smoke weed and nobody was in my room at all today. I believe it is another presence in my room. My family on my mom’s side has some gift of discernment of spirits. My great grandma felt the same thing once, something sleeping in her bed when nothing was there. My grandma has seen shadow people. My mom has had different experiences of scents and marks on her skin. As for the voices I hear in my head, I can tune in and out of it. Only if I focus hard enough, something will speak. It can be really difficult for me to discern if it is demonic or if it is God speaking sometimes. Anyway, thank you for reading through this. Jordan, thank you for your comment. I appreciate your enthusiasm for this topic! Yes, it’s certainly exciting when it first starts happening to you – and it can be quite intense at the beginning. Everything is new and unusual, right? And you can’t just talk about it with anyone because they think you’re weird. I get it – I’ve been there! Thankfully, it will settle down a little the more you get used to this gift and the more you learn how to use it and what it’s for.
The primary way to learn more is to ask Holy Spirit to teach you. Every time you sense something, stop and say, “Holy Spirit, what is that? What do you want me to know about that?” Then wait. If there’s something you need to know, Holy Spirit will show you. If not, you might not get any further information and that’s okay. Just tuck it away in your mind and keep going. Sometimes you’ll start to notice patterns and having these experiences will start to make sense the more you have.
The number one thing you want to learn after learning how to ask Holy Spirit about everything, moment-by-moment, is to learn about how to close doors to the unseen realm that need to be closed and how to break generational curses that may be affecting what you sense. Find someone who knows about deliverance, someone you trust. Ask them to pray with you. Neil Anderson has some wonderful books and teachings in this area that are very balanced and based on the Bible. I specifically recommend praying through “Steps to Freedom in Christ” – it helps you close doors that you may have open. Open doors can affect what you sense and cause it to be distorted which you definitely don’t want!

Lastly, you asked about what career this gift is good for. There are many – think of careers where being sensitive to other people is very important – for instance, being a counselor or therapist, helping special needs children as a teacher, being a nurse, etc. You could also go into the ministry of inner healing and/or deliverance. Counseling is offered at many Christian colleges, but this supernatural gift of discernment is not often acknowledged. Your primary teacher will be Holy Spirit because you need to cultivate a deep dependence on the Spirit to understand what you are perceiving/hearing/seeing.

I have experienced this spiritual gift for a year now. I’d like to ask for wisdom. How can we use this spiritual gift for good? When I sense these demonic presences around me, how can I cleanse it? Or heal it in some way. If the Holy Spirit is showing me that there is a demonic presence, I must do something about it. There’s never a time when I don’t feel something. The Holy Spirit continuously shows me different demonic presences daily and different emotions I sense from other people around me. I want to know how I can be of service, how I can help the demonically oppressed. Yet, I don’t know if I should speak up about my gifting because I’ve already had family members think it’s crazy. It was difficult for them to believe me. God is a supernatural God and He raised Jesus from the dead. Yet, currently people do not believe in the supernatural in our world since they haven’t experienced any of it. So, How can I help? I’ve tried praying over who had demons attached to them but it wouldn’t let up. With the authority we have through Jesus, we can try to get rid of them. Yet, people choose to indulge in their own sins which causes these demons to have authority over them. The only way to break that authority is by repenting of their sins and asking Jesus to break off these demons in their life. If you have any other wisdom or knowledge, I’d love to hear it. I want to know what career I should go after. When I spoke to the Lord, He told me to go to a Christian college with the gifting He gave me to learn more about it. I want to learn as much as I can. Please help me.
Jordan, I LOVE your question! That is exactly what to ask – wisdom for how to use this gift to help others for good. Keep asking that question and God will continue to show you how He wants you specifically to help others with this gift.
There are many different methods to deal with what you sense. You can learn how to shift the atmosphere when you sense the demonic around you. Sometimes the demonic is just in a room or just around a specific person – other times what you sense is on a larger scale, like in the atmosphere over your house, your city or your region.
Another thing you mentioned was authority. This is something you will learn individually – what your level of authority is. Think of the military – some people have little authority like a private in the army. Then as they gain experience, they grow and gain more authority – they become an officer. The more you are healed and whole inside, the more authority you will have to help others. And you are right – you can’t help someone who isn’t willing to turn and ask for help from Jesus themselves.

I looked this up and came to your blog because if I have a real strong sense that something is not right and coming from evil, my body will shake – it might just be my leg (like I’m nervous, is how I’d describe it). It’s almost like God’s confirmation if I’m questioning what I’m discerning or unsure – its like I’m sure, but I get God’s nod that I’m on the right track. But the more truth in the discernment, the more I’ll shake or like shiver but not cold. A confirmation is how I’ve always taken it – so if the enemy is putting doubt in my ear that my discerning is wrong, it’s God’s way of letting me know I’m right, if this makes sense. I hope this helps – this has happened many times and usually when I’m close physically to that of which is being discerned and is evil.

Both when I am discerning something and at other times, simply speaking what He is telling me to share. It now seems that the electric that I would feel when a person would
Touch me is actually not good. I thought maybe it was a good thing even though everything else said no. I thought of it as a good chemistry.
To another person that I am around, my one eye would
Get a stye or get irritated everytime I am around him. He likes me alot but I pull away because of this. He thinks something is blocking me from him. So which is it? Is it that I am suppose to be with him but warfare does not? Or is it that he is not good for me?
Sarah, these are excellent questions! You are paying attention and that’s a very good first step. The “electric” feeling means some kind of connection in the soul. But whether that connection is good for you or bad for you is something you discern with your heart. Pay attention to the effect it has on you – do you feel at peace inside? Do you see yourself being a kinder, more patient person? Or does it seem to control you and you feel irresistibly drawn to someone? It’s definitely “chemistry”, but it might be toxic. Not all chemicals mix well – LOL.
Regarding the other person – the eye being irritated every time you are with them – that’s tough to deal with. I would think it is telling you, There’s something you are not seeing here – or something is trying to prevent you from seeing clearly. I would be VERY cautious. In other words, there is darkness around this person and if you “see” it, it brings it to light. Darkness HATES the light and anyone who brings light is their enemy. I think you are wise to pull away. If you were meant to bring freedom, you would be drawn to him and you would have the power to stop the eye irritation. If you know Jesus and are His follower, say to it, I command this eye problem to stop right now! See what happens. If it stops, you have authority and can then ask, Lord, please show me why this is happening. Close your eyes and wait for a few minutes. See if He shows you anything. If it doesn’t stop, there’s your answer – pull away and stay away.
I have noticed a specific feeling in the same spot while speaking to the same person for 3 weeks now. I do not believe it is from me. The back of my head tingles and gets hot and I get dizzy. Sometimes I get a sharp pain on the right side of my head. I have not prayed or asked for clarity or protection. I will do so now.

Vicky, thanks for sharing your experience. I agree – I don’t think that is coming from you. Chances are there is something assigned to this person that tries to distract you whenever you speak to them. Dizzy feeling for me means it is trying to get you off balance, mess with you ability to discern it clearly. The sharp pain in the side of the head is usually associated with manipulation or control – though the person may not be doing it themselves. If you get any clarity, please come back here and share it with us. You can pray, “I cancel any assignment coming against me as I speak to this person”. Wow thank you so much for this article and I really appreciate it. I’ve been feeling so much heaviness on shoulder for quite long time and I’ve been praying about this symptom to God then I started to understand through Holy Spirit that it is someone else’s burden(not only one person but a few people). To be honest, it is so heavy and I don’t know what to do as I’ve been praying really hard and reading my bible. Moon, thank you for your kind words – I’m glad you found this post helpful. Jesus said, Take my yoke for My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matt 11:28-30). So that’s what I would do: I would say, Jesus, this burden is heavy. I give you this burden so You can carry it. Then imagine taking it off your shoulder and handing it to Jesus. You should feel better – roll your shoulders forward and back to loosen them up in the physical realm. If the burden comes back, acknowledge it and hand it to Jesus again. This is a form of intercession. He is allowing you to feel the fellowship of His sufferings. But He doesn’t want it to be so heavy for you – He wants you to give it to Him. I hope this makes sense. I like that you made this blog. I found it because I have a crawling sensation in my ears sometimes. And I have had my ears checked at the Dr. So I wondered if there was a spiritual meaning.

I think you should pay attention when it happens – does it happen only in certain places or with certain people? See if you notice a pattern and every time it happens, stop and ask, “Holy Spirit, are you trying to show me something? What is it?” and then wait and see what comes to mind. Hi, thanks for the article. I have had what feels like a very tight band around my head and chest that is there 24/7 and has been debilitating. Along with that, I have nasty panic attacks that are non stop for three or four weeks straight about four times a year that completely take me out. I then have a lot of encounters and dreams that sometimes feel like God and seem to bear fruit but sometimes feel like they are from the devil..the dreams seem to bring a sense of peace at the time but later after discerning bear no fruit and often times lead me to do things that get me off track. It kind of feels like a counterfeit holy spirit. I also have sexual dreams and experiences in my sleep that seem to have no cause either. Anyway, I do have freemasonry in my family history but have prayed through it multiple times to no avail. Any insight you have would be great! Thank you!

I have heard that feeling a band around your head can be a mind-binding spirit related to witchcraft. But when it is a spiritual attack, it normally comes and goes. I have heard that feeling a band around the chest is the spirit of Python, trying to squeeze the life out. Panic attacks are tied to the spirit of Fear. Yes, there is a counterfeit that can act like the Holy Spirit – I have often seen this as a form of divination. Hi! I also had a dream that I like discernment for if you can? In the dream there was a massive tornado that passed over me twice. I came out unscathed. I was on a beach and not wearing any shoes.
That was it, but I felt as if the tornado was the Lord and the fact that I wasn’t wearing any shoes..that this was a visitation from the Lord and that he was saying “take off your shoes for you are standing on holy ground.”
Then about two weeks later I started having massive panic attacks that I felt were demonic. Then one day during the midst of the panic, I felt the Lord speak to me about a few different things that I needed to correct in my life. Out of this place of fear I began to immediately make these corrections so as not to displease the Lord and make mistakes or continue on in sin.
My original thought was that this was the tornado(storm) in the dream I had and that it caused a lot of demonic torment to be stirred up. And that is how the Lord was able to get my attention to bring correction into my life.
But later on I felt like it might not have been the Lord at all because it was out of the intense fear and panic from the dream that I was driven to make the correction. I just don’t know if God would use fear in a way to get me to make changes or would God be much gentler in the way he guides? Any insight you have would be great!
Thank you for sharing your dream, Matthew. What if the dream means that no matter what comes your way, you will be unscathed. A tornado looks very scary and can be very destructive, but it did not harm you. The panic attacks feel very scary, but the Lord is speaking to you – even in the midst of that “storm” of emotions. There are two kinds of fear. Natural fear that works to preserve your life and holy fear that causes you run from sin. God doesn’t “use fear” but we might react in fear once we realize how scary the consequences would be if we don’t obey what He says. There are very real and painful consequences when we disobey and do things our own way – this should scare us. We don’t want that kind of pain and suffering – I know I don’t! God does guide us with gentleness but sometimes He has to be a little tough with us – especially if we are being stubborn (like if He told you before and you didn’t change, the next time might not be so gentle). My husband and I were in an occult book store and the closer we got to the back room, the worse we felt. He smelled something they were burning (incense) and thought it was the cause , but I hardly smelled anything. I started getting light headed and just had a voice in my head saying, “Leave now”. Also my neck started hurting really bad – it resolved as soon as we left. I felt like saying out loud, “Someone’s doing something back there.” I remember feeling irritated in the store. We had just been in their other store next door and bought some things. No issues there.
Elisa, thank you for your comment. I am not surprised that you felt bad in an occult book store. There’s a lot of darkness in those kind of places unfortunately. If you bought anything in either store, I would ask the Lord to wash off any contamination the items might have. You just never know what might come into your house through a random item that looks “innocent”, especially since you had these physical symptoms that something was not right in that store. Some of these symptoms I’ve experienced and didn’t ask the Holy Spirit because of ignorance. Praise be to God that I came across this blog and have gain some understanding. I really thought that discernment only manifested in sight because that is what I was used to people saying.

Hi, thanks for your help. I’m a first Responder volunteer Chaplain and I walked directly into the spiritual realm of direct occult (pure evil). I had to stand on my own while trying to help save people and children. Since then, I am seeing people around where I live casting spells, voodoo, along with feeling evil vibrations swirl around me day and night. I also feel invisible things crawl and wriggle all around my body and my face. It’s a vast array of spiritual attacks in retaliation
it has its moments – I feel like giving up, but then God answers my prayers asking for His, Jesus, and the Holy Spirits’ vibration fire and Blood of Jesus cover me and protect. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. All I can say is proclaim all of God’s promises. Remember Revelation 12:11-11 says (speaking about us) they overcame him (the devil) by our personal testimony and by the blood of Jesus.
it translates as this.. “we are Sanctified. God set us apart as holy.” We didn’t do it, He did it. We are Redeemed. Jesus gave his life to take our sin away so the devil no longer owns us. God Justified us – it’s God through the perfect obedient walk of His Son Jesus whose perfect righteous behavior transferred over to each of us, whereby God no longer sees us or our sin, but says to each of us,” I no longer see you or your sin; I now only see My Son Jesus. Go forth and walk in confidence!
Finally as it is written, as I walk in the same light as Jesus, kind to one another, helping, forgiving all things, then our sins are covered and we are covered by the protective blood of Jesus.
That’s where we must start, from there, never give up or give in. Rebuke the devil, he will eventually depart.

I have had this feeling of tiny ants crawling under my skin for years. But I notice when I call on Jesus it stops for a minute or two. Recently in addition to that I have been having pains in my right arm and lower left leg. I’m always confused and don’t remember much that I do throughout the day. A year ago I had a dream something was holding me down but I couldn’t see their face. Five months ago I had a dream a bunch of cats attacked my face. And a few days ago I had a dream three lizards were just looking at me with very creepy eyes in my dream. I don’t dream much but when I do it’s normally bad. I have very bad headaches, ringing in right ear when I lie down to sleep, my shoulders and arms often feel heavy. And sometime my bones crack. I know this is a lot but can someone please tell me what’s going on? I have a bad feeling. I feel like I’m going crazy. I have been praying every morning and night. Can someone please tell me what’s happening?
I am very sorry you are suffering. You have my compassion. You communicate very well – perhaps you have more clarity than you realize! 🙂 If you feel tormented (feeling like you’re going crazy or a bad feeling), I would suggest you find someone who is more experienced than you are in the unseen realm and have them pray with you. There is also a book of prayers you can do either by yourself (or with another person like a mature Christian) that may help also. This book is really powerful – I know many people who have seen instant results when they prayed the prayers in this book! I have heard benefits such as not having nightmares anymore, being able to think clearly, being able to concentrate, understanding Scripture for the first time and experiencing tremendous peace. This is such an awesome read, thank you so much for this. it’s really made me feel less alone, and it’s also really cool to hear how other people experience discerning things/common experiences felt world wide.
Both my parents have experienced things like being woken up in the night by splitting headaches or pressures on their heads, or stabbing pains and once the household has been prayed for, they go away immediately in the authority of the Lord. I myself have never experienced these things yet, but I do feel strong emotions whenever something maybe unclean/demonic may be talked about in conversations.
Here’s an example: One of my friends, who the Lord has brought into my life, is unfortunately deeply connected to witchcraft, and sometimes she speaks about demonic entities/things that she sees, like things standing over her bed and I immediately tear up. This isn’t out of sympathy or fear though, I was thinking it’s more of a physical reaction to perhaps unclean spirits? Has anyone else experienced something like this? My eyes immediately burn and I shed a few tears but I’m not emotionally upset and my chest feels heavy/panicked and my throat is tight? I thought that maybe this could be the Lords spirit working within me kind of clashing with whatever unclean thing is being spoken about/brought into the room? I experience this whenever something demonic is even mentioned, whether I know it or not,usually in the middle of conversations and it can actually get quite annoying because I look like I’m upset when really I think all it is is my spirit that sits with the Lord is unsettled? I’ve tried explaining what happens to my parents but they don’t really seem to get it, so I don’t really know. Sorry for the long comment, but I just really found this so helpful. Thank you so much. Could you be experiencing the Lord’s emotions? I agree with you, I think it’s your spirit responding, not your heart/soul. It may be His compassion that is bursting through you causing you to tear up. It can be a very powerful feeling and a little confusing if you’re not sure why it’s happening or it happens unexpectedly. It’s happened to me before. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you more. what does it mean as a intercessor when you experience sharp stabbing pains on your left side by your ribs
Lawrence, thank you for your question. I think it might be specific to what you are interceding about. The side by the ribs represents companionship, partnership and trust (Eve was made from Adam’s rib). Jesus was also pierced with a sword in His side when He was on the cross. The next time you experience it, ask the Lord if this pain is related to this. Sometimes stabbing pain is physical (meaning you should talk to your doctor) and sometimes it can be a word of knowledge for someone. If you notice it happening when you pray for a certain person, ask them if they have pain there. It could be they need healing – either emotionally or physically. What about seizures? I noticed when I’m around bad spirits I have them but only then
That’s a really good observation, Aliyah. I’m glad you recognize that there’s a pattern. This might be a way to avoid bad spirits – you don’t want to be around them because you sense that they give you seizures. That would help you avoid places where you might encounter bad spirits. Wonderful post! I am grateful for this platform. As a person who has a spiritual gift of discerning spirits, I tend to follow my heart, and not what God is revealing to me. 🤦🏾♀️ (That’s the woman/fleshy side of me.) The twitching/burning eye & the feeling of blockage in both my right eye and ear is exactly what i have been dealing with. I had wondered if I was being blocked from seeing & hearing in the spirit. I pray about it… but am I praying the right way? I don’t know.
Melinda, thank you for your comment. I’m glad you found your symptoms listed. I would pray something like this, Lord, please show me what is causing this blockage in my right eye and ear. Then wait patiently and see what He shows you. If you don’t sense anything after a few minutes, go about your day and see if He shows you later. Sometimes it takes time for Him to show you what is happening – timing is important in God’s kingdom. You could also say out loud, I cancel any form of witchcraft coming against my ability to see or hear in the spirit. I cover myself and my family with the blood of Jesus. I repent on behalf of myself and my bloodline for any way in which we have used the gifts of God for selfish reasons. Lord, please open up this gifting in my life. I surrender it to you. Thank you. Once you die with Christ, you will have the gift of discernment to a level that you can even feel the effects on people who text you. It’s a costly anointing, held by very few. When you die to the seed of self, the Lord will show you through the Holy Spirit. You will feel things all of a sudden when things are around you and you won’t understand it.
Here’s my experience:
Python/Divination spirit is stabbing headache back of the head, Nausea, tingling on the left shoulder blade in the back, feels as if you are choking. Makes you have victimization of self but scenarios that aren’t truthful. Connected to the neck of the spine
Leviathan spirit is the right shoulder blade, also makes you feel stuffy in the nose. Always makes you feel rejected for no apparent reason. Connected to the center of the spine as well.
Kundalini Spirit is tail bone/ lowerback pain. Also could feel sensation as if crawling, if something is around you or oppressing.
Spirit of Fear – Left upper side quadrant of the belly.
Spirit of Rejection – Right upper side of the stomach.
Spirit of Anger is middle belly button and also under stomach makes you feel you got to poop all of a sudden.
Spirit of Lust left and Right side of the center near the belly button.
Ashtoreth Spirit deals with sexual immorality but also a victim mentality of not feeling saved, thinking you’re always doing something wrong. Makes you question every direction. Each spirit operates similar but different – Jesus will show you this in the process of dying to self.
Jezbel Spirit is a rattling and all of a sudden a heart-racing feeling for no reason.
The Cost to get discernment is to die to the flesh. Paul felt the oppression as others did. Jesus did as well but he opened not his mouth. Isaiah 53:12
Also Paul explain the great crushing as being a bond servant, meaning it’s costly. Makes you go crazy. You question many things. Scary because it could be used for good or evil. Got to be careful with this gift. It’s considered part of the prophet’s office. Got to be led and guided strictly by the Holy Spirit.
You could feel many peoples oppressions and if you are not dead to yourself and don’t know your identity, you could revert right back to your sin that made you comfortable in order to ignore what is happening in your surrounding areas. Be Attentive around you John 14:13-18, John 16:12
Not easy, this is not just a discernment but considered a dominion anointing. As Jesus has given you a portion of what he entrusted you with. Don’t take it lightly and walk a Holy life. Not easy leaving the old things behind but the cost is everything. For me to live is Christ, to die is gain. Remember Paul in all his chains. He wasn’t just in physical chains but he was also in chains for the gospel, he felt all the churches condition by the Holy Spirit. Same with Ezekiel and Jeremiah and many other Prophets. Always be teachable and learn. The Churches in this hour is being confronted with the hidden idolatry as of now. Jesus is calling his anointed ones to prepare the way Isaiah 40. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

I agree – you gotta keep your eyes on Jesus! (not on the spirits of the enemy you feel or sense). I continue to hear knocks on walls in my home and I’ve been under spiritual attack by a demon and evil spirits. I feel heavy pressure on my body, I feel footsteps under my heels, severe headaches, fever that’s sudden, chills, neck soreness, foul odor (strong urine smell), they enter my head and chest area. People please stay prayed up!
Wow, Trevor, that sounds awful! I’m sorry you are under spiritual attack. I would encourage you to ask Jesus if you have any open doors to the enemy’s realm. Strange enough I called it the knowing.. I would.always know when someone who was sick that they were going to pass on.
There are times i can see in my vision (but not physical) things that are there.
My question .. when I see something or someone that goes against the knowledge of God, I feel very nauseous. If I’m next to someone I can feel exactly what they are feeling – most of the time it is negative and heavy. I have to pray and cancel it, cos it becomes too heavy for me.

You see things that are there in the spirit. And you feel what other people are feeling in your spirit. I’m glad you know how to cancel it so it doesn’t become too heavy – I understand. I’m a feeler too. I give it to Jesus as a prayer for Him to carry it and help the person, when it feels negative and heavy. I think that’s why I feel things – so I can say a prayer for that person. Yes, seeing or feeling darkness can make you nauseous – I often feel that way when it’s related to witchcraft (or even wishcraft). I have been having headaches on the top of my head, right side to be specific and light nausea which I think has to do with demons. Especially when I listen to Godly songs or read the bible.
My dreams have been blocked and sometimes I feel like I’m being watched in the middle of the night.
I’ve been trying to figure out what this means and nothing. Please, could you help?

In other words, they might not be targeting YOU specifically, but there may have been curses released over all the Christians in your area (it may not be personal). I recently realized I’m growing in the gift with the Holy Spirit. For example if my left eye suddenly feels pricked, the Holy Spirit is warning me about a monitoring spirit and to be quiet about personal or even general stuff.
My right ear can ring and I’ll know God is speaking to me. I usually feel the presence of the Spirit on my forehead like fire burning, from the moment I wake up to when I lie down. Some days if theres a demonic presence, I’ll feel a chilly breath on the left side of my head.
Whatever has to do with evil, I’ve noticed, occurs on the left part of my body

Really weird things have been happening since my mother in law moved in with me, my husband and 2 under 2 kids. My oldest son use to love her, but now he cries and runs away from her. Ever since she moved into our home, I’ve been to the ER more than 5 times in the past year with them sending me home. The other day I said let me pray for her and I grabbed her hand and every part of my body felt hot and itchy like bugs were crawling on me. I had 2 dreams after I asked God to show me what’s going on in the spirit – there was a dream of her putting a small spider on me. What’s even crazier I had a dream a whole year earlier that I was praying in me and my husband’s bedroom and my family was tied up in spider webs and I was praying and trying to suction the webs out with a vacuum. Ever since she came into our home, she went into my husband and I’s bedroom when we left the house – I caught her on camera and she lied. When she finally eased up a little she said she was just getting “shampoo”. She always walks over to the cabinets and and she looks like she is trying to put stuff in my seasonings that only I use or she’ll try to walk up to my food if I leave it unattended. She does not believe the Holy Spirit still speaks. What should I do? My husband would think I’m crazy because it’s his mom, but she has super jealousy issues over her son. The other day she said I’m hogging up her son.

You want to be respectful because it is your husband’s mother and yet you are definitely experiencing some negative things with her in your house. The spider often refers to witchcraft – which is a type of manipulation. Jealousy is often an issue with mother-son relationships – you’re not alone in that. The good news is that you have spiritual authority over your house – she does not. If I were you I would privately pray every day out loud, “Lord, please wash off this house of anything that does not belong here. I command any spirit not sent here by Jesus Christ to leave now! I cancel all witchcraft and any word curses spoken against me or my family, in Jesus’ name! I cover myself and my household with the blood of Jesus. I bind Jealousy and Manipulation – you are not allowed to act or speak in my presence. I release Peace and the Fear of the Lord in this house. Everytime I’m near anything to do with Hinduism, like I see a picture of a fake god or statue, a tightness comes around my throat. Passing by stores with other demon gods etc make my arms itch. I find Hinduism has particularly strong spirits

I have tapping on my walls in my bedroom. I can feel pressure on my legs and when I awaken can feel it. It actually feels comforting as though as though I should go back to sleep. I can feel when the energy or whatever it is dissipates and leaves my body. What is this??
Macie, thanks for sharing your experience. I don’t know what you are experiencing – maybe someone else reading this blog will have some insight. Since it is comforting, perhaps it is an angel. But I have never heard of angels tapping on the wall. Ask the Lord to reveal the true source of this energy and He will.
